Genuine essential
oils bring a powerful new dimension to a Chinese
medicine practice. They are proving invaluable
in complex or sticky conditions, where they can
create amazing shifts in treatment outcome. By
deeply modulating neuroendocrine or jing shen
functions through neuropeptide activation, they
can trigger profound changes in the individual,
as seen by immediate pulse changes, without any
additional burden to the digestive system. The
use of essential oils represents a perfect
complement to acupuncture and bodywork in
general that is safe, user-friendly and
extremely effective.
This
seminar will present the essential practical
information needed
to start incorporating oils in the clinic. It is
appropriate for acupuncturists, shiatsu
therapists, massage therapists and other
practitioners wishing to incorporate essential
oils in their clinical practice.
Cost: $295 early registration, $250 students

Course created by Noel Wright
Acupuncture Physical Medicine
is a unique style of acupuncture that blends
Classical TCM Acupuncture theory and treatment,
musculoskeletal approaches and Japanese
protocols for treating acute and chronic
healthcare disorders. Acupuncture treatments in
this style address the root causes of disease
and the physical manifestations, taking into
account the myofascial and meridian
perspectives. The aim of treatment is to create
a balance within both the musculoskeletal and
energetic meridian systems to promote healing
and also maintain wellness and well-being.
Noel Wright has a
Bachelor's degree in Biology and a Master's in
Acupuncture from Tri-State College of
Acupuncture in New York. She is a Diplomate of
Acupuncture with the NCCAOM (National
Certification Commission for Acupuncture and
Oriental Medicine), member of the CMAAC (Chinese
Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Canada)
and registered with the Osteopathic Acupuncture
Board, Pennsylvania.

Kanpo Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute and
Chronic Respiratory Conditions in Victoria, BC
Canada with Nigel Dawesin
Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday, October 1-3, 2008
5:00PM-9:00PM
Location:
Pacific Rim College
229-560 Johnson Street
Victoria, BC V8W 3C6
Canada
Come join us in the beautiful
Pacific Northwest for a rare opportunity to move
beyond the typical Kanpo introductory seminar
material with noted expert Nigel Dawes. This is
a unique chance for those interested in
abdominal diagnosis to enlarge their repertoire
and understanding. We will start with a review
of Kanpo basics on the first evening so that
newcomers can be accommodated as well. Then we
will move into the treatment of common
respiratory disorders using Kanpo formulas. Each
ailment will be discussed according to the
different conformations with their respective
formula applications. Conditions covered will
include: common cold, influenza, bronchitis,
pneumonia, asthma, bronchiecstatsis, emphysema,
COPD and pulmonary TB. Kanpo, which translated
means Han method, is the unique system of
herbal prescribing used in Japan. There are many
unique features to the Kanpo system when
compared to the practice of herbal medicine in
China, but one that piques the interest of North
American students of Chinese medicine is the key
role played by abdominal diagnosis, or Fukushin.
This is a feature almost entirely absent from
TCM practice and yet the experience over
hundreds of years in Japan is that the abdomen
holds key information that is not always likely
to be revealed in a patient interview. A great
deal of this two-day workshop will focus on
hands-on practice under the tutelage of Nigel
and his assistant. Participants will leave
feeling confident in their understanding of the
material and the method of palpation.
Nigel Dawes has been involved in the
education and practice of Oriental Medicine for
over twenty years. As founder and director of
the Kanpo Internship (KI), he currently offers
an accredited one-year post-graduate clinical
apprenticeship in Sino-Japanese herbal medicine
in New York. He is on faculty at Pacific College
of Oriental Medicine and Tristate College of
Traditional Acupuncture in Manhattan and
regularly presents at
conferences and teaches workshops throughout the
US, in Europe and in Israel. From 1993-2001 he
was Dean of the Graduate School of Oriental
Medicine at the New York College of Holistic
Health. He founded and directed the London
College of Shiatsu from 1988-1993, which offered
an accredited three-year training in Shiatsu and
Oriental Medicine.
